Books for Babies
Every baby born at Howard County General Hospital in January receives a new book from the Howard County Literacy Association (HCLA). This is done to promote literacy and to celebrate National Reading Month during January.
We are excited to announce that this year we began a partnership with the Bright Minds Foundation. Our organization is collaborating to combine the "Read with Me" literacy initiative and "Books for Babies". In addition to each newborn baby receiving a book, parents are invited to register in the "Read with Me" program.
"Read With Me" is a young reader program that mails children one book a month from birth until their 5th birthday! This program is currently available to children under age 5 participating in programs run through several Howard County community organizations. The Howard County Literacy Association is now a proud partner with the "Read With Me" program!

Laundromat Literacy
Everyone Reads is an initiative to put books in the hands of children and adults. By placing a bin of books in a few local laundromats, it is our goal to share the gift of literacy with these customers. Children and adults can pick a book to read and keep. The appealing posters will promote the value and joy of reading.

As Habitat for Humanity does not build in Howard County, the HCLA partners with community centers in the county to promote literacy. The Literacy Council annually present a collection of books and a bookshelf to a local support center.
